 Masters of Science in  Human Resource Programme, which is firmly grounded in business principles, is designed to enable students to understand the business world and enhance capacity in informed policy options for effective business management. In addition, enables learners to acquire critical and analytical thinking skills in making decisions for effective management of human resources. The programme also prepares learners to undertake further and specialized research in human resource issues. A range of careers is available to graduates of human resource management including teaching in higher learning institutions, compensation management, performance management, and employee development among others.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants with any of the following qualifications shall be considered for  admission:

  • First Class in the first degree or Second Class Honours (Upper Division) of Maseno University.
  • Holders of a first degree from an accredited University and recognized by Maseno University Senate as equivalent to a First Class or Upper Second Class Honours degree of Maseno University.
  • Holders of Lower Second Class Honours degree of Maseno University or of a recognized University who in addition to the degree, have a post-graduate qualification such as a diploma in a relevant field, or have post-graduate Research experience as evidenced by at least one published paper in a refereed journal or Technical reports and patent documents, or two years working experience in a relevant field
  • Pass degree with a postgraduate diploma in the relevant areas.

            Programme duration

Period of two academic years distributed over four semesters of full/part-time attendance provided that part-time attendance shall not exceed a period of four calendar years from the date of registration.

 

 Programme Structure

The programme shall normally consist of coursework, examination, and thesis or project option extending over a period of two academic years.

For the thesis option, the first year of study shall normally consist of coursework, identification of a research topic and proposal writing.  In the second year of study, the students conduct library and field research on their chosen research topic during the first semester, while in the second semester, they are required to write up their theses and submit them for examination.

For the project option, the first year and first semester of the second year of study shall normally consist of coursework.  By the third week of the first semester of the second year of study, the students shall have identified a research topic and complete proposal writing by end of the semester.  In the second semester the second year of study, the students conduct library and field research and are required to write up their projects and submit them for examination.

The entire program shall cover 4 semesters.  The thesis option shall consist of a minimum of 15 units and a maximum of 20 units of coursework, examination and thesis while for the project option it will be or a minimum of 14 units and a maximum of 22 units of coursework, examination, and project.
