DIPLOMA IN HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT

Introduction

The hospitality industry is a major employer worldwide and consists of a broad category of fields which include lodging, restaurants event planning, etc. Despite the rapid growth of the industry, there has not been a commensurate growth in the number of trained professionals to meet the diverse needs of the clientele. This programme intends to train students who will be able to meet the challenges in careers within the hospitality industry.

  2. Equip students with balanced training that combines theory and practical experience within the hospitality industry.
  3. Train students to have management and entrepreneurial skills for self-reliance.

Programme Requirements

 

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to this programme, C plain mean grade at KCSE; or (minus) and a certificate in the relevant field is required.

Course Duration

The duration of the program shall normally be three academic years of six semesters of full-time attendance. 

Programme Structure

In the first, and second year of study, candidates will take a combination of courses offered in the department. Students shall take all units prescribed in each academic year. During their third year of study, students will take one field trip that shall cover all the theoretical aspects learned in class. At the end of the third year of study, students shall undertake a three-month industrial training in the tourism and travel industry. The teaching of students in the Diploma programme will apply student-centered teaching/learning methods. Specific teaching/learning methods will include lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, field visits, case studies, simulations, and role-play.
