About the Department

The Department of Accounting and Finance is one of the five departments in the School of Business and Economics. It offers Accounting and Finance Postgraduate, Undergraduate and Diploma programmes namely Doctor of Philosophy in Finance, Doctor of Philosophy in Accounting, Master of Science in Finance with six specialization areas: Finance & Accounting, Finance & investment Management, Finance, Banking & Capital Markets, Finance, Risk & Insurance Management, Quantitative Finance and Finance & Strategy,  Master of Business Administration (Finance) and Master of Business Administration (Accounting) at postgraduate level and Bachelor of Science (Accounting and Finance) with Information Technology with Accounting and Finance specializations and Bachelor of Business Administration (Finance Option) with Information Technology and Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting Option) with Information Technology at undergraduate level; Diploma in Small Enterprise Finance.
These programmes prepare students to work in the area of accountancy, banking, finance, administration, consultancy and related fields. The programmes incorporate courses in information technology to help meet the demands of the current job market and the projected continued influence of information technology in conducting business. They are designed to prepare accounting and finance professionals who have high integrity and innovativeness as well as requisite information technology skills that will contribute to the attainment of Vision 2030 and beyond.
The department employs professionally competent faculty staff in the disciplines of accounting, finance, auditing and taxation. Approximately 300 students are graduated every year from the department’s programmes and many more graduates from other programmes after passing through the department for specific courses that make part of their programmes. 
The Department endeavors to increase enrolment into Accounting and Finance programmes which currently stand at 802 for undergraduate programmes, 65 for Masters Studies and 35 for PhD studies and enhance learning performance by providing clear guidelines on course content delivery and evaluation on a continuous basis.

MISSION STATEMENT
The primary mission of the Accounting and Finance Department is to strive to educate and serve the diverse needs of our students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders while churning out practical oriented accounting and finance graduates so as to fulfill industry skills requirements and create new opportunities through competitive and market driven programmes.

QUALITY OBJECTIVES
To increase the enrolment into Accounting and Finance programmes by 25 % by the end of every two year interval.
To enhance learning performance by providing clear guidelines on course content delivery and evaluation on semester basis.
To facilitate staff capacity development through recommendations for training and scholarship opportunities for at least one departmental staff per year.
To promote the culture of scholarly writing and publications so as to attain one university text book and one publication per departmental faculty after 2 years and per quarter respectively.
To participate in at least one community outreach service and/or Accountancy and Financial Management consultancy annually.
