About ECOHIM
Overview/Introduction
The department of Eco- Tourism, Hotel and Institution Management (ECOHIM) in the school of Business and economics was founded as the department of Hotel and Institution Management about 20 years ago in the then School of Family and consumer sciences (SOFCONSTEC). The department was renamed Ecotourism, Hotel and Institution Management (ECOHIM) in 2005 and later hosed in the school of Physical and Biological Sciences (SPBS). The department offers BSc, Diploma and Certificate courses in hospitality and tourism to students at its Main and Kisumu campuses. At that time of department’s inception, Maseno University was the first public university to introduce hospitality and tourism training at university level. To date, the department has trained more than 1000 graduates who are pursuing careers not only in the region but overseas as well.

- To provide students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to function effectively in a diverse and global hospitality and tourism environment
- To provide students with career-oriented programs with professional leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills needed for managing diverse hospitality operations in the hospitality and tourism industry;
- To provide the student with proficiency in the application of selected technology in hotel and institution management work environment
- Promote-multi disciplinary approaches to teaching and to research and development.
- Develop international and cross-culture collaboration in core areas that affect the sustainability of tourism and related industries.
- Develop local and international community-based professional awareness.
